Last summer I was asked to join the Badass Bands team to share mixing duties for their Badass Bands Live monthly digital residencies. Being a fan of the blog, the content they were creating and the people involved, it was an easy decision for me to hop on board.
From a technical stand point, I really didn't know what I was getting myself into. I did not have any experience mixing live tracks. I'm not a FOH guy and most of my experience comes from mixing songs that either myself or other producers have recorded in traditional and home studio environments. There was definitely going to be a learning curve to these sessions! I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of it, and with the help from the rest of the BBLive crew it has been an easy/ fun/ rewarding job every other month.
So far, my favorite part about this work is the ability to work with a wide range of artists. So far I've had the opportunity to mix one of my favorite local bands, TUFT. As well as Dangerbird/ Postmark Records artist, The Frights. And this month is no different. The Walcotts are a power house that is classic and refreshing at the same time. I look forward to catching a live show soon!
